NaNoWriDo or NaNoWriDon't?

Wed Oct 29, 2008, 4:49 PM
So, a few weeks ago, I got one of those form e-mails from Chris Baty (the NaNoWriMo dude) titled 'Don't Make Us Come After You'. In it, he urges folks to register on the site and go for that thirty days of literary madness known as National Novel Writing Month.

I'm... uncertain.

I first tried it in 2006, and surprisingly managed to pull over 50k words of backstory out of my City of Heroes main, Parzifal. Of course, it still sits, unfinished and unedited, on my HD (as well as other places), but hey, I did it, got my little certificate and such. It was a pretty good feeling.

Then I tried last year. Cripes, what a crash and burn. I won't go into the gory details, but there were several medical emergencies involving my husband that pretty much sucked away all the time, energy, and creativity I had. I was hoping to be able to to Tarosvan's backstory (that's Trey, he's my other CoH main), but all I got was maybe 10k of crap that I more or less shitcanned.

So, I'm looking at this year and thinking... should I try? It's been a long time since I've been able to produce much of anything, and the prospect of facing a month of writing 1667 words a night is filling me with something approaching dread.

And yet... gawds, I miss writing. I miss waking up in the middle of the night, hands shaking, -needing- to write. I haven't had that feeling in a very long time.

  • Playing: City of Heroes, once I get home.
  • Eating: Waiting for vegan eats. Oddly, I'm not a vegan.
  • Drinking: Wishing I had that blood orange soda.

2k views? Huh.

Just noticed that, yes, I've reached and surpassed another arbitrary milestone views-wise. Since they can't all be artists I've commissioned and provided the fiction as a reference to, I'd like to thank everyone who's stopped by and had a peek.

Thanks for stoppin'. *wave*

You'll need to go through some menu acrobatics to get to the good stuff. (Once at the whiteboard, Extras -> Watch the sexy TV commercial).

If you're sumo-sensitive, you may want to give this one a pass. Lately, though, when I've needed a little pick-me-up, I run this commercial once or twice. Gives me the giggles.

  • Watching: Infernal Affairs (Tony Leung/Andy Lau version)
  • Playing: LotR: RotK on Gameboy. Yes, I'm a throwback.
